A lot of people don’t consider locking their mailboxes, but it should become a usual habit. Every now and again there are some people who decide to go digging through your mailbox. They may steal your phone bill or they may steal something as important as you social security card. That is just one of the reasons why everyone should have locking mailboxes.

Identity theft has become a very big problem for many people around the world. Many people who have gone through identity theft has happened just by unfortunately not having locking mailboxes. If you live in an apartment building, you have probably seen the neighborhood mailman deliver your mail. In the middle of the mailboxes of all your fellow neighbors there is one big lock in the middle that only the mailman has a key for. This prevents anyone else besides the mailman and the post office to have the ability to open everyone’s locking mailboxes.

If you are someone who owns a house and you have a regular mailbox that anyone can open it would be a very good idea to put a lock on it and make sure that only the people that you trust to have the key for it. Another thing you should make sure of is that your locking mailbox is big enough so if you are away for a couple of days you do not have to worry about it sticking out of the slot.

If you are expecting something very important a very good suggestion would be to wait in front of your window until the mailman gets it to you. Make sure that you do not leave it in the mailbox for too long; especially if it does not have a key. If it does have a key still wait for it, you can never be too safe.

Pay attention to where you keep your locking mailbox key so you do not lose it. You may consider it misplacing and you can just get another one, but to some people it may just be the beginning of an identity theft case. No, there are not many people who are willing to walk around to every mailbox and see if the key they have opens it, but there is a lot of technology now that can help them find out what household’s mailbox it belongs to.

Post offices all around the world have been thinking of many possible ways to keep your mail safe. In some states and countries have even set up security alarms on mailboxes that go off when someone besides the mailman opens the lock that opens all the mailboxes at the same time.

The best types of locks to use for locking mailboxes would be Deadbolt locks. This is not the usual key lock this lock is made up of a combination, key and springs so it is not easy to open. You do not have to worry about anyone breaking into that. These locks are so amazing that you cannot just buy them at your local hardware store you must order them. The companies that sell these locks are usually associated with the Post office.

There are a variety of furnitures that are available. It is quite a task when you think about restore furniture. Any kind of furniture can be restored and given a new look. It would look just as a new piece and would also be very appealing. You can even restore furniture that is old or even antique.

If the items are little damaged then restoring furniture can be done easily. You will have to keep a plastic sheet under the furniture. You will have to use sand paper on the damaged part. Then clear any kind of dust that is to be seen. You can use a cloth to do so. Paint can then be put on the furniture with the help of a brush. Keep the furniture to dry.

At times furniture’s get damaged very badly. In such a case in order to restore furniture you will have to keep the furniture on a plastic sheet. Always use mask in order to protect yourself from the chemicals that would be sprayed. People who have respiratory problems need to be more cautious of their health. Then you will have to spray all over the damaged area. Leave it for around fifteen minutes. If there is any kind of soft finish then it can be scraped out. Any type of left over should be cleaned with the help of a clean cloth. You can alternatively use wool for the purpose. Then paint the furniture with a brush. Keep it for drying. You can again apply the paint if needed. Polyurethane can be put to give it a nice finish.

Some furniture would be antique and you would want to restore furniture and make them look new. For this you would require a good place which would have enough ventilation. Then you will have to remove the old finish. This would take a long time. Any kind of damages that are to be seen can also be cleaned. Then each section which is stripped should be wiped. Any kind of marks that are to be seen on the furniture should be removed. You can use oxalic acid to get rid of stains. Clean it with a sand paper. Then put the finishing coat of color which would polish your furniture.

Restoring furniture is what many people have been opting for. Instead of going to buy new furniture you can think of restoring them. This would turn out to be cheaper and also very cost effective. The look that would be given after it is restored would make the furniture look great.

When you are looking for Mediterranean furniture, the word “Marrakech” comes up often. For instance, there is the Marrakech fountain, the Marrakech cabinet, the Marrakech door, the Marrakech tile and the Marrakech sun lamp, to name a few. This Mediterranean furniture is labeled “Marrakech” because it is made by artisans in the Southern capital of Morocco.

In the artwork, you can see a hint of French and Belgian influence, but mostly Arab and Berber tradition. All woodwork is intricately carved and is as sturdy as the Atlas Mountains that border the South of Morocco. The brilliant colors dancing on your Mediterranean furniture are as stunning as the magnificent Majorelle Gardens. In the streets of the Moroccan kasba, in the Main Square of Medina, in the foothills of the mountains, you will find local craftsmen selling their pottery, furniture and treasures. For those of us who cannot afford the trip right now, there is Mediterranean “Marrakech” furniture.

You will also notice a lot of Mediterranean furniture in the “Moorish” tradition as well. Moorish architecture describes a style that flourished in North Africa, Portugal and Spain, where the Moors ruled from 711 – 1492. There was a revival in the mid-1920’s where bulbous domes and Mohammedan arches were sprouting up everywhere. Lacy wooden carvings, jewel-inspired artwork, floral patterns, golden-brown pottery with blue designs over top and geometrical shapes characterized the Moorish style. Here you can find Moorish tables, tiles, doors, fountains, benches, mirrors, chairs and chests.

A third distinctive style of Mediterranean furniture on our site is labeled “Arabian Nights”. Americans have always been fascinated by Arabic folklore that includes Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Aladdin’s Magic Lamp and The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. These stories that make up the 1,001 Arabian Nights collection date all the way back to 800 AD and have since spawned dozens of movies, books, plays, musicals and animations. The furniture — which includes a bench, headboard, lamp, lantern, table and throw blanket – is among our most captivating. Laden in rich red and gold, these items boast a distinctive taste suitable for a sultan.

The “Sevilla” style of Mediterranean furniture is named after Seville, the artistic, cultural and economic capital of Southern Spain. Lavishly decorated, Seville holds a fortune in gold and showcases an amalgamation of Neoclassical, Medieval and Gothic designs. In our Sevilla collection, you will notice a lot of blues and greens, along with differently colored lines following the same pattern. Tiles, fountains, mirrors, candle holders, chests, tables and lamps can all be purchased in this ornate Spanish-influenced style.

Whether you are into Marrakech, Moorish, Arabian Night or Sevilla designs, you are bound to fall in love with the Mediterranean furniture collections we have to offer. If you are not sure where to start collecting, just type one of these styles into our search engine and you will see a number of furniture pieces to choose from, taking all the guesswork out of your home decoration. You will not need to call a professional to arrange it all if you find a distinctive style that best suits your tastes.

Your tired of walking up and down the stairs and listening to them squeak, you have no idea what’s causing this horrible noise, but you’re tired of it and it’s time to fix your squeaking stairs.

I have been building stairs for so long, I can probably do them while I’m sleeping. The most common problem with squeaking stairs will be a loose nail or two pieces of wood rubbing together. Sometimes squeaking stairs, are extremely difficult to repair or fix and other times, it could be as simple as installing one screw into the stairs stringer, through the stair tread.

The first thing you will need to do is find out where the stairs are actually squeaking. If you can push this stair tread up and down or move it just a little bit, while its squeaking, there’s a good chance that it’s rubbing up against a nail or the back stair risers

What do I do, if I have one stair treads that squeaking? It’s all going to depend on whether your stair treads are finished in wood or covered in carpeting. If you’re stairs are covered in carpeting, you’re in luck. You will need to locate the center stairs stringer and trite to install a screw through the carpeting, and reattach the stair tread to the stairs stringer.

The stairs stringer is going to be hard to find, but it will usually be located within a couple of inches, directly in the center of the stairway. Locate the center of the stairway, and start screwing your first screw at that location. If the stairway is still squeaking, remove the screw and moved the screw over an inch and a half in either direction and try again. If this doesn’t work, go to the opposite side of the center and try again.

Keep working your way at inch and a half intervals, until you have reached the stairs stringer. You shouldn’t have to do this more than four or five times, if you do, stop what you’re doing, and try to figure out where the center stairs stringer is located exactly, using a stud finder. That might or might not work, you could always try tapping on the stair tread with a hammer.

As you tap on the stair tread, listen for a certain noise, the stair tread will be located, where the noise seems to sound like it’s hitting something solid, instead of a hollow sound. Try screwing into these areas and hopefully your problem will be solved.

I devised this exercise some years ago when I needed to find a new home. I’d just attended a workshop on creating your own reality and was greatly taken with what I’d learned so I carefully noted down everything I wanted in my dream home and then set about trying to find it.

No one was more astonished than I when a few weeks later I was offered a house to rent that not only ticked every box — when I checked my blueprint I saw I had inadvertently written down ‘telephone line’ twice, and the house had two telephone lines running to it. This is a powerful exercise!

The technique can be used for a range of possibilities but, for the purposes of the illustration, I’ve chosen a dream home.

You will need some paper and a pen or pencil and, initially, an hour or so of uninterrupted time. But this is an on-going exercise, something you can keep adding to until you’re completely satisfied with the end result.

What’s crucial to success is identifying the limiting beliefs most of us hold that we can’t have what we want, that we don’t deserve it, that it’s not possible. That’s the hard part — but help is at hand.

Start by writing ‘My Dream Home’ in the centre of the page and drawing around it a circle, a heart, whatever takes your fancy. Now you’re going to sketch in lines leading out from the centre, like a star burst, and write down all the things you want in your dream home.

You can start by writing down basics like electricity and gas supply, mains sewerage, telephone line, or you can assume those are going to be there anyway. Are you going to own this home or rent it? Write down things like ‘freehold’ or ‘good landlord’ and ‘affordable rent’. Do you like sleek and modern or something more traditional? Is it important that your home is well insulated, has central heating, double glazed windows? Write that down.

How many bedrooms will it have? And why do you want that number? If you want one as an office or a workroom, could you as easily have a dining room that doubles up? Are you trying to fill your needs for both now and in the longer term? Is this home going to last you forever or are you creating something for now, knowing that as your needs change you’ll be able to create another dream home? (You’re going to have to answer an awful lot of questions to get clear about what you want, but it’s going to be worth it. You can’t get what you want until you get clear about what you want.) When you’re quite clear about how many bedrooms write it down.

Do you want a separate dining room and kitchen or would you prefer them combined? Write it down. What kind of kitchen do you want? What will it have in it? Washing machine? Tumble dryer? Would you prefer a separate utility room? Write it down. Do you love cooking or are you someone who does the absolute minimum on that front? Will you need lots of equipment or very little? A breakfast bar or the kind of large kitchen table that everyone can sit around?

This is your dream you’re creating here and you make up the rules as you go along. If you find yourself thinking ‘I’ll never be able to afford that,’ keep reminding yourself this is a game, this is a dream you’re creating … for now! This is what I mean by letting down your walls of belief. Doing this exercise not only helps you get clear about what you like and what you want, it also helps you get in touch with those beliefs that stop you being who you really are and getting what you really want. The more work you do on this the greater are your chances of success because you’re also working on your subconscious, giving it encouraging affirmations, wiping the old negative tapes and replacing them with new, positive ones.

When you get to the point where you’ve had enough for now, stop. You’re doing some really hard work here and you need to acknowledge that. We’re generally much better at quantifying physical work than mental effort and it’s important not to overdo things at this stage otherwise you’ll end up exhausted, especially at the beginning. Put it to one side and come back to it later but try and set aside a brief time each day, or perhaps three times a week, to keep working on your blueprint.

As your vision grows start imagining yourself in your dream home, walking around it, looking at each room. How do you feel? Are you comfortable? Does it reflect who you are, who you’d like to be? What colours predominate? Lush, rich colours or something more subtle? Are there carpets, wooden floors, rugs and runners? Is it full of things, a cosy, family home or is it elegant and minimalist? What do the doors look like, the walls, the lights? If you change your mind about something as your vision develops that’s fine. Just change it on your blueprint. It doesn’t matter how messy it gets. You can always do a neater version as you get more clarity.

Are there any absolute essentials you couldn’t live without? Do you need to be near public transport, within easy reach of the shops, close to people you care for or care about? Would you prefer to be out in the countryside or in the middle of a town? Are you passionate about the sea and dream of living within sight of it? Don’t listen to the voice that says ‘in your dreams’. Write it down. Is your dream home somewhere hot and sunny, a retirement home abroad, perhaps? Just put yourself in that place, imagine it, smell the scents, see the colours and create your home in the local style.

Is there anyone else to take into consideration, other members of the family, family pets? It’s probably easier to do this exercise if you’re doing it just for you but I’m assuming your dream home will accommodate what family you have so I guess you might have to make a few compromises. If a husband needs a garden shed to take refuge in, a garage to store assorted paraphernalia, build it into your blueprint. If the kids need somewhere to store their bikes, if the rabbit needs some grass, put it all down. Is there a dog that needs exercising — do you need to be near to a common area?

Do you want a garden? How big will it be? Who’s going to maintain it? Will there be hedges, fences, walls? Are you bothered about being overlooked, about privacy or would you be happy having neighbours you can chat to over the fence? Will there be a vegetable plot or just flowers and shrubs — what kind? Put it all down.

Something that needs to emerge through doing this exercise is a sense of responsibility for what you’re creating — and that’s a tricky one. On the one hand I’m saying ‘go for whatever your want’ while on the other I’m saying ‘you have to take responsibility for what you create’. But there’s no point in dreaming up a home like something out of Footballers’ Wives if you’ve got small children which means you’ll have to cover up the swimming pool and spend all your time picking up their toys in a vast garden.

It doesn’t make sense to want a large garden with a vegetable patch if no one in the family has ever picked up a trowel, or to want an elegant, minimalist home you’ve seen in a classy magazine when you know you’re really untidy and perfectly happy with that. You need to be realistic. This dream home has to be in line with your values and what you want out of life.

Keep working on your blueprint until you’re confident you’ve covered every possible detail. Then start putting energy into moving towards that dream. What are you going to need to do to move you closer? What are you going to have to let go of?

The most important consequence of doing this exercise is gaining clarity about who you are and what you want. We so often spend our lives vaguely dissatisfied, not sure what we want but quite sure that we don’t want what we’ve got. Ultimately you may end up taking a few tiny steps to bring your dream into reality — clearing out stuff you no longer need, changing the use of a room from, say, a bedroom into a workroom or office. Or you might move on in huge leaps and acquire exactly what you wished for (even down to that second telephone line!)

You may decide you’re not quite ready for such major change, that there are other issues to resolve first. That’s also fine. You might want to put your blueprint away for a while and come back to it in six months, a year. It just might astonish you to look at it after that time and see that some of the things you wrote down have appeared, as though by magic. You see, once you get really clear about what you want, what you want tends to find you!

If you are planning to build a home, more than likely you have a size in mind. Of course the size of your home has to fit the lot that you have and the budget you have available for the home. It’s very common today for people to start out building a fairly small home. However, a small home doesn’t mean that you can’t have all the great features and amenities you really want. With the right small house floor plans, you can have a wonderful home that looks beautiful and that provides you with everything you need from a home. Of course there are some things to consider when you are planning to build a smaller home. Here are some important tips and ideas to keep in mind that will help you to make the most of your small house floor plans.

The Importance of Thinking Ahead
First of all, you’ll find that it is very important that you think ahead when it comes to drawing up small house floor plans. One wrong move while you are building can cause a problem later on when you are in the home. You need to start thinking about things now. Thinking ahead can help you to make sure you have a good idea of where everything is going to go within the home. Careful planning is essential if you are going to come up with plans for a smaller home that work.

Have an Architect to Help
Trying to come up with your own small house floor plans may be a mistake. So, it’s best to have an architect to help you out. A good architect can be so helpful, since they are well trained in how to use space. They’ll be able to foresee some of the problems that may occur in the future with a small space. You can sit down together with your architect and together you can come up with good plans for the home that will work, even though the space you have may be small. So, although it may cost you a bit to have an architect help you out, it will be well worth it in the end.

Wall Placement is Critical
One thing that is so critical when it comes to small house floor plans is the wall placement that you come up with. Not only does wall placement need to be carefully figured out, but the placement of doors and stairs can be very important as well. They must be put in the exact right place to make the home workable and livable as well. Only when everything is carefully planned out and each wall and door is put in the right place will the home be able to work out right.

Building Better
The key to coming up with small house floor plans is to learn how to build better. There are many simple ideas that can be used to help you make the most out of a small home. One excellent idea to use in your small home is to use as few walls as possible within the inside of your home. You can use other things to define off the different areas within your home. You don’t always have to have large walls. Going with short walls can help, as can opening up staircases so that they don’t take up so much room. You can use counters or even bookcases within your home to define different rooms instead of having a big wall that takes up a lot of space that is needed within the home.

You don’t have to have a huge house to have a smart home that you can live in. If you keep these tips and ideas in mind, you’ll be able to come up with quality small house floor plans that you can easily incorporate into your home. Once it’s complete you’ll be surprised at how wonderful the home turns out. You’ll feel like there is more space and you’ll be thrilled with the great look your home has as well.

In Sweden there has been a great increase in interest in furniture and design, to the point that it is just as important to expressing personality as the clothing one wears. The company G.A.D. which originates from the island of Gotland also has a strong presence in Stockholm and offers custom furniture.

With a uniquely wide variety of secondhand shops, coupled vast number of galleries selling sample pieces, furniture constructed in light of Feng Shui principles and concepts, with timeless pieces from the decades of the 50’s and the 60’s which are high in demand right now, combined with furniture giants the likes of IKEA, Mio and EM, the SoFo region is one exciting place in Stockholm that any furniture lover would not dare to miss.

One of the biggest gatherings for Scandinavian furniture lovers is the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Stockholm Furniture displays many of their pieces during this fair, one particular section being the Greenhouse.

Heirloom gardening is a type of gardening that is in a class of it’s own. There are many unique features in the heirloom varieties of bot vegetables and flowers. This method of gardening is one that has usually been past down from generation to generation along with the seeds.

Once you start heirloom gardening and discover all the unique features that heirloom varieties have over hybrid varieties you will most likely be hooked and never change back. The flavor, juiciness and sweetness of heirloom vegetables have no comparison to hybrid varieties.

The seeds used for this method of gardening are open pollinated. This means that the plant will produce seed naturally. When replanted the seed will reproduce the same plant as it’s parent plant for generation to generation to come. Hybrid seed will not reproduce the same plant when there seeds are saved and replanted. This means the gardener is dependent on the seed companies every year.

All heirloom gardeners have one thing in common. They choose this type of gardening to keep these types of crops and flowers fro going extinct. Every year more and more varieties of heirloom flowers, fruits and vegetables are lost. There are plant seeds that were brought to our country by our ancestors from all parts of the world.

When we save heirloom seeds we are saving apart of history and culture. When choosing seeds that you want to plant you can trace back your family tree and choose varieties that were the ones that your ancestors would of planted.

Choosing to grow heirloom vegetables in your garden will give you the assurance that your crop is pure and natural. There are not produced by genetic changed hybrid seed.

There is a growing interest in heirloom gardening. There are seed companies that are devoted in just heirloom seeds along with many seed exchange groups. These groups are where you can share your seeds with others along with your experience.

7 Decorating Mistakes:

Toilet rugs – Hate to see them down! They should all be replaced with a pretty area rug or gorgeous textured rug that feels great to walk on barefooted. Never skimp on the details. Fear of color – In one fan deck from your local paint store, there are over 1000 colors to choose from. Being bold and choosing one is better than a house full of white and beige that feels as if you have walked into a hospital ward. Painting is the cheapest way to transform any room(as long as you are the one doing the painting) and it makes the biggest bang for your buck Outdated accessories- We all get attached to stuff. That doesn’t mean it has to stay around FOREVER. Every store you walk into, from Target to Ukrop’s, has home accessories. Don’t get tied in a decorating rut because your old accessories don’t go with a new look. Pick up some new accents and it will all start to come together. Tacky couch covers – There has yet been created a readymade slipcover that looks good. Custom slipcovers and reupholstered furniture is the only way to change the look of an existing piece. If recovering isn’t an option or the piece isn’t 8 way hand tied, kiln dried or hardwood frame, then replace it with the best you can afford. Sentimental furniture doesn’t have to be ugly! Pushed back furniture – Every piece of furniture in the room has been pushed to the back wall and everyone has to shout to have a conversation. This is the way most of us arrange our furniture. If the sofa can fit a table behind it that will give dimension to the room and a place to put some lamps. The chairs should be between 5-6 feet from the sofa. Pieces can be angled off the wall and this creates a cozy space for relaxing and entertaining. Fake flowers – Not all of us can keep a plant alive. Fresh flowers, an indestructible house plant or beautiful, silk, tropical tree goes a long way in making your home inviting. Again, buy the best you can afford and don’t buy unless it fools the eye. Improper lighting – I hate to use my over head light. The only time it comes on is when my husband has started to hyper-ventilate because he can’t find the remote. There are 3 types of lighting, overhead or ambient(see previous comment!), task lighting and accent lighting. Kitchens need a lot of light because of the different task we perform there and the amount of time we spend doing them. Under cabinet lighting shows off granite beautifully and some sconces enhance artwork or cabinetry. Be creative and BRIGHT.

I am sure there are many other mistakes but I don’t want to overwhelm anyone. Happy Decorating!

In this economy when there is a glut of houses on the market, you may still have trouble finding that perfect home. Your choice of home can expand even further beyond what is physically on the market through your choice of home plans available on the web. You go from limited lists of homes on the market in your area to a seemingly infinite number of choices in the virtual world.

Most people don’t get the opportunity to pick both the location of their home and the home itself. Normally, the two are connected and impossible to separate. By using home plans, you open up your search to any piece of land large enough to satisfy your needs. You can pick land that is isolated or set within an urban location. You can choose land on a flat parcel or along a gently sloping mountain. The opportunities are endless and most people don’t even consider this fantastic option.

The computer is your most powerful tool when it comes to custom home building. You can sit at home and peruse hundreds of possibilities of complete house plans instantly available to you online. All for reasonable cost and with the level of detail you need. Working with a builder is much easier and more efficient when you have the electrical, plumbing and various other options prepared in one package.

It’s easy to imagine a three bedroom home with three bathrooms. You can add a large kitchen with a huge center island and sink. Add the built in appliances and multiple sinks in the counters so the kitchen is of chef’s quality. Each bathroom can have dual basins, a large whirlpool tub and skylights. Add loads of cabinets, heated floors and glass block to create a luxury feel. The living room can have vaulted ceilings and a semi-circular shape. Create an entry way that commands the same attention as the house itself. The property can be expansive with a large rectangular swimming pool complete with piled rock waterfall. If you think you’ve reached your limit, you can easily expand your search to a larger property, more bedrooms, additional bathrooms or even seek an alternate layout altogether.

Obviously, everyone isn’t searching for a traditional house. There are also log home plans available to create the ultimate first or second home. Apply the same freedom of land choice to your vacation home. Shopping for a log home can be difficult especially given the smaller field of choices. Selecting your own land coupled with your own beautiful log home plan can result in the ultimate vacation paradise.
