Landscaping Small – Gardens, Balcony and Design for Small Spaces
Jan 30th, 2010 by admin
As opposed to what you may think, a garden doesn’t have to be in
the ground, or even at ground level. With some planning and
imagination, a garden can be created on a balcony at your house.
A balcony garden is very fun to create, and it can make your
balcony at your home or apartment look great. Since there is no
actual land to plant anything in, you will have to use pots.
Make sure not to overdo planting on your balcony. You still have
to have some room to move around out there.
Flowers And Ferns
If you are creating the balcony garden to add style and color to
your home, flowers and ferns are a necessity. You can use any
size pots, as long as they are appropriate for the plants that
will go into them. Placing larger, heavier pots on the ground,
and the smaller lighter pots on a bench or on the rail is a good
idea. It is practical and looks nice as well. Pots can also be
hung to create shade and add privacy.
Watering
You need to water your garden every day, especially if the
balcony is covered and doesn’t naturally receive much rain water.
Also, be sure to pay attention to the plants to know if they are
getting enough sunlight, water, and nutrients. Not paying
attention to your plants needs will cause them to die, and your
plan to make your balcony look better will backfire. Instead, it
will look ugly. Don’t let this happen to you.
Don’t Overdo It
If you plant too many things on your balcony, it will become
overgrown. Ivy, for example, can take over the entire balcony,
or even the whole home or apartment building! Just a little bit
of life on the balcony will likely achieve the desired effect. A
few plants on the ground, a few on a bench, and a couple hanging
plants, will probably be plenty. The rewards of a small yard landscape plan
or creating a balcony garden, as long as you take care of it properly, will be beautiful. It will
give you a rewarding hobby, while making your home look nicer at
the same time.
